Ready, Set, Go! RAYC Race as part of Menai Seafood Festival

The Royal Anglesey Yacht club is very excited to be part of the Menai Seafood Festival for the first time this year and will be staging a classic-yacht sailing race at Menai Bridge with race commentary and live camera feed for spectators.

Take a step back in time and watch these beautiful classic boats sail in the waters they were built for nearly 100 years ago.  The two classes of boat that will be racing will be the Fife One Design and the Menai Strait One Design, both created specifically for racing here in North Wales.  The first Fife was created in 1920s and the first MSOD in 1930s, the heyday of yachting; as a club we are proud to share the love we have for our natural environment and our enthusiasm for these stunning yachts.

We race on the Menai Strait every week throughout the summer; and sail as far as Puffin Island at the Northerly end of the Strait and Caernarfon to the South.

The Menai Seafood Festival race will start at 2:30 pm on the 22nd August and will begin from the start line at Menai Bridge (Prince’s) Pier.  The race will be broadcast life to the tv screens set up around the festival and spectators can see the boats getting ready for the start from the main festival area and the promenade.  Members of the club will be on hand on the promenade to answer any questions people may have.

We are holding two “open Sailing” events this summer for people who would like to have a go on Sunday 16th August and Sunday 20th September and both start in Beaumaris at 10:30am.  Visitors are very welcome to come and get a taste of sailing in the Menai Strait, no experience necessary.
