Our Boats

Mabli is the patron saint of rowing and perseverance.

The Celtic Longboat is a 4-oared, coxed rowing boat 24 feet long used for racing, keeping fit and touring. There is room for passenger in the bow.

Dale Sailing was selected as the builder of Celtic Longboats in 1999. The Celtic Longboat is a strict one-design. So everyone races on level terms. Beaumaris Rowing Club owns four Celtic Longboats: Mabli is number 100 and was built in 2014. Menai is number 105 and was built in 2015. Seiriol is number 110 and Cybi is number 111; these two Longboats were built in 2018 and are named after Anglesey saints.

A Celtic Longboat weighs about 160kgs and a double trailer about 340kgs. This gives a total weight for trailer and two boats of 660kgs; below the legal maximum for unbraked trailers of 750kgs.

The hull is GRP, the oars are carbon fibre and the rudder aluminium.

In 2019 the Teifi Skiff Carol Luise joined our fleet. She is named after Carol Owen, one of the Club’s keenest members who passed away in 2018. Carol’s family donated funds to have the boat built in Carol’s memory.

Carol Luise is 18 feet long and takes two scullers on fixed seats and a cox. There is room for a passenger in the bow.

The hull is light with the loads being taken by the gunwhale and an aluminium space-frame. The oars are carbon fibre.

In skilled hands she can keep up with the Longboats!
