Success in Ireland for RAYC sailing team

10 sailors bring home the first Celtic Challenge sailing trophy.

The sailing challenge saw sailors from the Royal Anglesey Yacht Club travel to Ireland to take part in a team-racing event in Glandore South west Ireland in County Cork.

The Celtic challenge was a Team racing event where experienced sailors from Welsh and Irish sailing clubs raced against each other  in a bid to win the weekend by racing three races on Saturday and Sunday.  The teams raced in Dragon’s, an international class of keel boat, in stunning weather on Saturday and then gusts of up 40mph winds on the Sunday.  The sailing captain for the RAYC Ewan McEwan said of the weekends racing “both teams fought hard to win the challenge trophy and the Welsh were made extremely welcome in Ireland. We look forward to hosting members of the Glandore Harbour Yacht Club back here in Beaumaris to race in the waters of the Menai strait”

The rayc often take their classic boats to yacht regattas and in particular the Glandore Classic Regatta http://glandoreyc.com/classic/ arranged by the GHYC every two years.  This is a way of forging friendships and flying the flag for Welsh sailing in other areas of the world and is a great opportunity to share ideas and best practice with like-minded friends.
